On May 25, 2012 Sheffield won their first state title in Track and Field. It was Larry Kimber's second-place finish in the 200 that advanced Sheffield into first place. Adding on to that, their 1,600 relay team consisting of Keith Jones, Jaquan Clayton, Dominique Williams and Larry Kimber also caused this historical event of leading the Knights as State Champs.
Who would have ever thought that Sheffield could come this far. From all the negativity that the news exposed of Sheffield High, we still mange to rise through that and became the talk of the town from our first great win of the state. I was so proud to be there and watch our magnificent Knights run to become the state champs. They made history and astonished many, making their fans, coaches and parents stand in awe for their win. Maybe now Sheffield will be consider as something better than they thought of us to be.
