Intoduction to Poetry
"I want them to water ski across the surface of a poem waving at the author's name on the shore." This is quoted from Bill Collins's poem entitled "Introduction to Poetry." I enjoyed reading this poem as he grazed on teaching students how to analyze poetry. It was simple and short but yet engaging, meaningful and full of personification. His goal of explaining students to better comprehend poetry was well accomplished as he fluently used poetic devices as well. In all this poem was wonderful.

Death of a Salesman
Death of a Salesman is a film released August 15, 1985. The influence of a man accomplishing the American dream lead to this film. This movie belongs to the Drama genre. One idea that I will like to define from this movie is that one's American dream may be different or doesn't fit for the other. This movie was adapted from another work, it came from a book with the same title and author. It was received pretty well considering the fact that it received a Broadway revival in 1999 and 2012. When viewing the title, Death of a Salesman, I thought that it was going to involved death in an important and significant family.
In the introductory scene, it begins with a man driving a car. As a viewer, it made me ponder about where he is going. There are three scenes in this movie that were important and served a purpose. The first scene was when Willy the main character picks up an old photo and shows his wife. In this photo was a red chevy that he explains was a remarkable thing. This is an important scene because Willy seems to find happiness when he thinks about this car. Another important scene is when Willy gets loses his job at a salesman. Willy walks in to ask to stay in New York to sale but instead he gets fired. This is important scene because his family depends on his income and now he has no job to go to. The last important scene is when Willy's friend, Charley gives Willy money after losing his job and offers him a job where Charley's work. Willy denies the offer. This important because it shows how stubborn Willy is to take the job and is jealous of Charley's success. The climax of the movie scene is when Biff, Willy's son sets him straight by telling him that he is a farmer not a salesman. This illustrates the main idea because Willy's dream of his son becoming a salesman was not pursuing because Biff had dreams of his own that he must follow to define himself. The film did not leave any disunities at the end. It concluded at Willy's funeral and his wife talking to his grave.
The characters of this movie is developed in many ways. Willy character is developed through his actions and sayings. His purpose was to show that some people dreams don't always come true. Biff character is developed by his doings and sayings also. Biff served as a wake up call to his dad Willy. Happ is also Willy's son but didn't get much attention. Happ character was developed by his doings because his sayings and opinions was rather much ignored. Happ served as pleasing Willy rather then helping him. Linda, Willy's wife was characterized through her doing and what she wore. Linda never wore business clothes or casual clothes it was always a house dress showing that she is a house wife. Also her doings showed that she tried to please Willy the best way she could. Linda purpose was to try to keep the family together.
Overall the director's purpose was to give an interesting movie to entertain. The message sent through the movie was that being liked will get you no where but being educated will get you to be successful. The role that Biff played was the high school jock that everyone liked but he was failing in math. Willy wasn't concern for Biff's grades just for his accomplishments in sports and how many fans he had. Biff and Willy's character relates to this message because Biff grown to be not successful as he should and confused about what he wanted to do for a living. There is one symbol in this movie and it is the red automobile that Willy has flashbacks to. This red car served as happiness to the family.
